Acupuncture

Studies Support Acupuncture as an Effective Infertility Treatment

Acupuncture has been utilized for over 3,500 years in Chinese medicine. Today, studies in the U.S. and Europe have shown that acupuncture can assist in fertility when combined with Western treatments. These studies have proven that acupuncture increases the blood flow to the uterus and helps to release endorphins, which carry a critical role in balance and well-being.

Acupuncture Increases Uterine Blood Supply - Experimental Evidence

Through monitoring blood flow, researchers have shown that applying acupuncture to specific points does in fact increase blood supply to the uterus. This is crucial as increased blood supply can trigger thickening of the endometrial lining of the uterus. The endometrial lining of the uterus receives and nourishes the fertilized egg, a critical first step to establishing a successful pregnancy.

Acupuncture Therapy for Fertility Nearly Doubles Pregnancy Rates

A study performed in Germany showed that acupuncture therapy for fertility was proven to nearly double the clinical pregnancy rates for fertility patients undergoing IVF treatment. During that study, without acupuncture, the baseline pregnancy rate was below that of U.S. fertility centers. The dramatic increase in the pregnancy rates highly suggests that acupuncture has a strong effect on fertility when used to complement IVF treatment.

Acupuncture May Help Male Infertility Too

Additional scientific studies suggest that acupuncture could also increase low sperm counts, meaning that acupuncture could play a positive role in male infertility treatment.
